Il Postino actress to act in Hindi film

Renowned Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, who shot to fame with her role as Beatrice Russo in Michael Radford’s Il Postino in the mid-1990s, will soon fly to Mumbai to star in Aditya Basu Bhattacharya’s next film.
The film, Bollywood Cop, is the story of a tough encounter specialist who misuses his power and position to exploit a sensuous Ital-ian woman making a living in Mumbai as a Bollywood item girl. The film will also be produced by Cucinotta herself.
“It will be a dark thriller,” said Bhattacharya, who hopes to begin the single schedule shoot early next year. He adds, “The film will be primarily in Hindi. The Italian girl will speak only a smattering of Hindi and English.”
Irrfan Khan, the star of Bhattacharya’s last film Dubai Return, is expected to play the title role in the new venture. With the lead actress as one of the production partners, Bhattacharya’s Destiny Pictures and Italy’s Istituto Luce will invest a bulk of the funds for the making of the film.
Cucinotta was in Cannes for a day to conclude the deal. Talks are also on with another probable co-producer, Vishwaas Pandya of the Mumbai-based White Stripes Entertainment, whose last release was the critically acclaimed Jahnu Barua film, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara.Bhattacharya’s Dubai Return was premiered at theInternational Film Festival of India last year, but it has yet to get a theatrical release.
