Sushma's heartbroken

Sushma Reddy has broken up with her boyfriend of a few weeks. But what is keeping her spirits up in this tearful time is her film Chup Chupke, (also starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor), which is releasing next week.We quizzed Sushma about her recent split and she was hesitant to talk about it, “I am very private about my personal life.” After some prodding, she opens up. Sushma begins with, “I am not even sure how much in love I was. I can’t reveal his name. It would be unfair to drag him into all this. All I will say is that I was dating this expatriate Indian businessman for a few weeks. He’s based in the USA. I had met him through some mutual friends at a party, and got to know him better.”
Long-distance woes
Then what happened? “It was a brief affair and work pressures split us up. We broke up over a month ago. I have realised that being an actress, I should date somebody from the film industry as people of the same profession understand each other better. I have my film commitments, he had his business ones and ultimately, you can’t have a long-distance relationship over the phone even if you talk to each other every day.”The actress says she really misses him, but there was no other way out. “It was very tough breaking up but then it was a mutual decision. Right now, I am totally focussing on my career.”Briefly through her depression, a spark of humour glints through. “I am very single and ready to mingle. There was too much distance in the relationship. How much can you talk on the phone? I ran up some great telephone bills,” she smiles.
Gaon ki gori
Coming to her upcoming film, where she is paired with Shahid, she says, “I play his fiancĂ©e, Pooja. The biggest challenge was playing a village girl, as I am known to have a glamour image.” Besides Chup Chupke Sushama is also doing Mahesh Manjrekar’s Big Bazaar, based on the lives of the Mumbai mill-workers, Puneet Issar’s next and a couple of films more for which she is yet to sign on the dotted line.

Shilpa not in 'Babel'

Shilpa Shetty's spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar has dismissed rumors of the actress being part of the international film BABEL opposite Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. "Shilpa has not signed any international film as yet. Soon after returning from her vacation in New York, she got busy shooting a song for Anil Sharma's APNE, while her nationwide 'Romanov' ad campaign will start anytime now," the spokesperson informs.
The rumor about BABEL began as a reputed international website incorrectly listed Shilpa's name in the cast of the venture.

Aishwarya Rai's look-alike porn actress!!!

Remember all those semi-nude pictures of Aishwarya Rai that were making the rounds a few months ago? Almost all the movie magazines in Kerala happily carried the picture in the centerfolds!
Well, we thought they were going to claim that the pictures are morphed, but it turns out that those are the pictures of a south-American actress who happens to look a lot like Aish!
After the colossal flop of Aishwarya Rai's new English film 'Mistres of Spice', Aish made headlines with the release of her new English film 'Provoked'. The film's performance at the box office is yet to be seen. Aisnwarya Rai is also working in Manirathnam's new film.
And suddenly she is everywhere in the news.
A few days ago, rumors began that she had died in a crash in Germany. Her publicist denied those reports and said that she's in Chennai. Now somebody is busy raking up the old issues of porn clips of the actress.
Now, back to the look-alike actress- reports say that all those pictures and the clips feature this actress and not Aishwarya Rai. The actress looks a lot like Aish except the eyes- she has black eyes while the former Ms World has light colored eyes.
Wow! That's a very tiny difference!

An interview with Bipasha Basu

The sexy siren of Bollywood, Bipasha Basu was apprehensive about comedies. Soon after some serious dramas, Bipasha is all set to make people laugh with her forthcoming film Phir Hera Pehri. A sequel to Hera Pheri, she plays the character of Anuradha that Tabu played in the original. Here, she talks about her role and experience of Phir Hera Pheri.
What is Phir Hera Pheri about?
Well, as the name suggests, it is the sequel to Hera Pheri. Hera Pheri was a cult film. This one's going to be a classic comedy. Being a sequel, this has gone one step ahead. It's a total mad riot. People will be falling off their chairs when they see this film. A lot has happened in the lives of these three characters. New characters have also been added. The film revolves around money. A man needs to acquire money. And in the process, various characters come in the picture. Total havoc is created!
What is your role in the movie?
My character is Anuradha, but I am the complete opposite of what Tabu was in the first part. She has a couple of fun shades to her. She is a con artist of sorts. I am paired opposite Suniel Shetty. Anuradha also participates in the chase for money!
What interested you to take up this movie?
I wanted to be a part of this fun film. It will be one of my first films which I'll watch many times. When I was offered this role, I just wanted to be a part of such a good comedy. It's a film that you cannot be embarrassed about! You would want to keep watching it. It's definitely got the repeat value because it makes you laugh! That's the reason I did it.
How was it working with the trio of Akshay, Suniel and Paresh?
Well, Akshay was my first co star. And Suniel Shetty has been a producer and co star in the past. Paresh Rawal was great fun. He is so unassuming and quiet. He gives his one liners even when we are not shooting. They all have such great chemistry. They have done lots of films together. So the chemistry is quite evident on the set even when they are not shooting. They are going to make you laugh all the time. I had some apprehensions earlier. Now we know each other so well! They are very good people to work with. It was fun.
How was the atmosphere on sets?
It was crazy. Everyone was trying something or the other. There were lots of pranks. They tried silly pranks on me all the time. But I really did not fall for them most of the times! I am used to these kind of tricks. I have worked with Sunil and Akshay in the past. So I was safe that way. It was a great working environment.
What do think of the music of the film?
The music is done by the most popular music director of today's time, Himesh Reshmmiya. He has definitely given foot tapping numbers to a lot of films. He has done the same with Phir Hera Pheri. What I like about the music is that they have kept the comical parts through the songs! They are funny and foot tapping. It's a nice mix
After No Entry, this is your second comedy film. Do you think comedy is more difficult to handle?
When you have a good director and a good set of co stars, then it's easy. Of course, you need good timing and need to be comfortable with yourself. You can't have any kind of inhibitions while doing comedy. One should just completely let go and do the character! So yes, it is a little difficult.
What comes to your mind when we say Phir Hera Pheri?
The first thing that comes to my mind is Hera Pheri. I feel these boys are coming back again. I am also excited to see them again! I am actually like the audience who wants to watch this film.
Lastly, have you done any Hera Pheri in your life?
No, I am a very simple girl! There is no hera pheri in my life.

Mr Bachchan is incredibly sexy!’

Eighteen-year-old Jiah Khan’s dream has come true. “It was my childhood dream to become a Bollywood actor and I only wanted to work with Ramuji (Ram Gopal Varma). I have watched all his films and loved them,” she says.Add to that, she gets to play the romantic lead opposite Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Nishabd’! “Isn’t that unbelievable?” she squeals, “I was very nervous when I first started working with him. But he is such an incredibly sexy man. He helped me learn acting and also made me extremely comfortable. Not once did I feel I was working with a super-duper star.”Her role in ‘Nishabd’ is about a teenager falling in love with a much older man. Jiah says that’s the most normal thing to happen to a young girl. “Every young girl experiences a crush on a teacher or any older person. It was easy for me to play this character as it suited me perfectly.”After having a blast shooting the film, the young star says she hates being back in London. “Can you imagine, the film was wrapped up in 20-odd days? I wanted it to go on forever.” For someone born and brought up in London, was she comfortable delivering Hindi dialogues? “Oh, that was not a problem at all. My mother Rabia is from Lucknow and she was an actor too. And since I always knew that I would be a Bollywood actress some day, I worked on my Hindi,” she reveals. In fact, her meeting with RGV was also orchestrated by her mother. “She mentioned my desire to work with him to someone who knows him and that person introduced us to Ramuji,” she recounts.Jiah likes to describe herself as a “rebel without a cause”. So it makes sense that she’s making her debut with the most unconventional subject in Bollywood!

Himesh's Jhalak Dikhlaja track inviting ghosts literally

If RGV's Darna Zaroori Hai didn't scare you enough, here's a freaky little ghostly tale for you. It's a known fact that Himesh Reshammiya is ruling the music charts these days and pulling increasing number of fans with his nasal voice. That's normal, quite natural, even Elvis Presley did that. But here's a freaky turn to the story, what if one of his song is attracting the dead!! This is not any fiction that we are creating. It's a real life situation in a small village of Bhalej in the Anand district of Gujarat where Himesh's chartbuster song 'Jhalak Dikhlaja' from the film Aksar is working as a mantra to pull the ghosts in the village. The villagers claim that the line in the lyrics which goes 'ek baar aaja aaja' is actually acting as a call for the ghosts.
A rational person who doesn't believe in superstitions might dismiss this idea as stupid, but the villagers in the Bhalej believe in this myth completely. The villagers have a number of stories to tell regarding the song.
Nearly 10 days back, a 25-year-old Firoz Thakor, who was humming the song, got caught under the evil influence. He ate a lot and started talking to himself only. He finally seemed to become normal when taken to a priest. This is one story. There have been many such instances in the past 15 days wherein more than a dozen people have fallen prey to the spirit and some have even lost their lives.
The song keeps playing on the local radio station twice or thrice a day but people here turn off the radio to avoid any trouble. Some sources say that people mainly from the Muslim community are becoming victims of the song. However, it seems that everyone in the village irrespective of their religion is equally scared. People are running to their religious priests for help to cure their demon possessed relatives. In fact, there is also a particular spot like the graveyard next to the lake in the village where people get attacked by the evil spirits on humming the song.
After realizing the root cause from this exorcism, the villagers seemed to have banned the song completely. They don't wish to invite any more trouble and therefore are also urging the local bandwallas to avoid playing the song at the weddings. However, will the locals appeal to the court for a ban and will the court accept such a plea is yet to be seen.
One thing is for sure though, that Himesh's nasal voice definitely has magical powers. If it can wake up the dead from their deep sleep, its highly justified if we go bizarre listening to those killer numbers.

Shahid's original fiancee in Chup Chup Ke

Priyadarshan's forthcoming film Chup Chup Ke is slated to release next week. And here's a scoop very few people might know. Isha Sharvani of Kisna fame was initially signed up for the role enacted by Sushma. It is believed that Isha backed out from the movie when she came to know that her role wasn't as meatier as Kareena Kapoor or Neha Dhupia the other actors of the film.
Speaking about same Sushma said "I was aware of this from the beginning. There was some date problem between Isha Sharvani and the filmmaker but that is between them and I did not bother about it. Chup Chup Ke is my second film and to work with Priyanji, was a big thing. I don't think there is any reason for me to refuse the project as the director is very experienced and has a huge starcast."
She adds on, "I am a newcomer and there is a long way to go for me. One can say so many things about this issue but in the end I'm happy with my role."

Kunal Khemu in Bhatt's forthcoming movie

Kalyug fame Kunal Khemu has signed yet another movie with Vishesh Films. Kunal, who is currently busy with Madhur Bhandarkar's forthcoming movie Traffic Signal will once again share screen with Emraan Hashmi after Kalyug.
The film titled Awarapan will be directed by Mohit Suri who earlier directed Khemu's Kalyug as well. Speaking about Awarapan he said, "The three of us are coming together again. I have signed their forthcoming movie Awarapan with Emran Hashmi in lead role but they are yet to zero in on the leading actress. It will be an action thriller." He went on to say "I am excited about this project and looking forward to some more interesting projects."
Awarapan is slated to roll in August.

Himesh Reshammiya on a roll

It's a fad to listen to Himesh Reshammiya's songs these days. Youngsters are increasingly swooning over his songs, be it at parties, discotheques or the woofers in their cars exuding his songs. His ubiquitous presence on the celluloid and rocking songs say it all! His popularity has soared as never before. It's like Himesh here, Himesh there and Himesh everywhere.
The gossip mills have it that Himesh has been zeroed in to sing 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' for Ram Gopal Varma's film RAM GOPAL VARMA KI SHOLAY. It is a multi-starrer with actors Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Mohit Ahlawat, Katrina Kaif, Urmila Matondkar, Rani Mukherjee, Sunil Shetty and Rajpal Yadav. Big B will be seen playing Gabbar Singh while Urmila would be seen gyrating to the sizzling number.
So will Himesh recreate the magic of R.D Burman???

Rituparno Ghosh's 'Rahgeer' is 'certainly on'

Producer Pritish Nandy says 'Rahgeer', to be directed by Rituparno Ghosh, will go on the floors soon, putting to rest recent rumours that the film has been shelved,.
''Rahgeer' is very much on. We have Akshay Kumar's dates, and we'll certainly not let them go to waste,' Nandy told IANS.
'Yes, there's a bit of delay as my director Rituparno Ghosh's mother fell ill. Also, Vidya Balan needs to get acquainted with her role. But 'Rahgeer' is certainly on.'
The film, which is reportedly based on the Dev Anand starrer 'Guide', has Vidya enacting the multi-layered character played by Waheeda Rehman in the original.
'My leading lady Vidya is not very sure about her complex character. It's a role of a woman who goes through many shades and changes. It's a character that's neither black nor white. Vidya had a problem connecting with the character,' said Ghosh.
'We have decided to hold an acting workshop for her so she can get familiar with the layers and nuances of her character. Once that's on we're on,' he added.
The delay notwithstanding, both the producer and the director are charged about the project. 'But it's just one of the many projects at PNC (Pritish Nandy Corporation),' explained Nandy.
Throwing light on her role, Vidya said: 'I am a big fan of Ritu-da, and when he offered me a role I fell off my chair. When I met him we hit it off instantly. There is something extremely sensitive and warm about him. I am dying to start working with him.
'The role he offered me is so layered that I am scared of approaching it. I am so happy and flattered that directors come to me with such complex characters. I hope I live up to Ritu-da's expectations. I do need to prepare for the role. A workshop seems ideal.'
Incidentally, several recent films have put their actors through workshops -- prime examples being Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Maqbool' and 'Omkara' and Homi Adajania's directorial debut 'Being Cyrus'.

Mani-Madhavan team up again

Mani Ratnam has finally roped in blue eyed boy R. Madhavan for a parallel lead in his Hindi film 'Guru', starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in key roles.
It's been one helluva musical chairs for Ratnam. After casting Abhishek in the title role in 'Guru', there was a flurry of names considered and discarded for the other male lead - Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Viveik Oberoi and Madhavan to name a few.
Madhavan had, in fact, been a hotly speculated name since he's been a favourite of Ratnam from the time the actor did his first Tamil film 'Alai Payuthe' with him.
'I'd happily do the part if Mani sir offered it to me,' Madhavan had said when rumours of his inclusion in 'Guru' first did the rounds.
Ratnam has ultimately gone to his old favourite Madhavan to play the desperately vacant parallel part. Actress Vidya Balan can sigh in relief because she finally has a leading man in the film.
Though Madhavan isn't allowed to talk about it, the deal was signed just before he sneaked off to London to lose weight since the role requires the actor to match strides and personality with the sprightly Abhishek.
Says a source close to both Mani and Madhavan: 'Maddy (Madhavan) was over the moon when Mani sir finally asked him to do the role. In fact, Maddy was wondering why Mani sir was hunting around when 'ghar ka' hero was in front of him.
'Don't forget they have done neo-classics like 'Alai Payuthe', 'Kannathil Muthamittal' and the Tamil version of 'Yuva' where Maddy played Abhishek's character. The two are almost like family. So it's no surprise if Maddy bailed Mani sir out.'
Apparently the director gave his favourite hero a distress call. 'Maddy didn't even want to hear the role. He immediately said yes,' added the source.
A further incentive for doing the film is Abhishek - Madhavan and Abhishek are genuinely fond of each other. If Maddy played Abhishek's role in 'Yuva', Abhishek was the original choice for the lead in 'Saathiya' the Hindi remake of Mani Rathnam's 'Alai Payuthe'.
Incidentally, Sanjay Gupta has roped in Madhavan for another Hindi film.

Aishwarya writing autobiography!!!

She's only in her early 30's and she had acted in only about 30 odd films but Aishwarya Rai is already giving serous thought about writing an autobiography!!!
Her film 'Provoked' was premiered recently. The film is about a young Punjabi woman who is physically and emotionally abused by her husband and in-laws. In a fit of rage she kills him.
At the press conference after the screening, reporters asked her if she too had faced similar tortures in her life. She replied, "Almost every other woman in India undergoes some kind of abuse at some part of her life. I'm no exception either." This statement made the reporters very curious. They began asking her to elaborate on it.
Aishwarya Rai simply said, "I'm working on my autobiography right now. You'll find answers to all your questions in the book."

Amisha's de-glam look appreciated in 'Ankahee'

What with cricket, word games and carom, the cast and crew of 'Chup Chup Ke' seems to have had a blast while shooting the film.
Amisha Patel has been inundated with calls and SMSs about her understated performance and de-glam look in 'Ankahee', reports Bollywood Trade.
'I feel so overwhelmed by the calls I have been receiving about my de-glam look and performance in 'Ankahee'. In fact, for that much talked about scene, which was okayed in just one take, I didn't use glycerine for the shoot. Everyone was so stunned and even Vikram forgot to say cut. It was very touching,' said Amisha. 'I put so much of myself into that scene that whenever I see it now, I get emotional. It was a satisfying experience. In fact, all my producers called up and congratulated me.'
Amisha's next is 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd' in which she essays a very light-hearted character.

Negar Khan strikes back

The bold Negar known for her “revealing” acts in the past has done the trick again and this time at an even larger platform.
Negar Khan, who was at the Cannes Film Festival this year, gave a peek-a-boo while posing for the media. Negar however, like everyone else has used the lifesaving words ‘wardrobe malfunction’ which seems to bring one out as an innocent victim from the whole situation. But looking at the pictures, it surely doesn’t look like an accident.
Actor Sahil Khan, who is Negar’s husband, got annoyed when asked to comment on the incident. He feels very uncomfortable about the whole situation, he says. Besides, they are not together anymore. Says Sahil that he is no judge to comment on her, but then he also believes that in the end it’s only a person’s talent that counts. All these things can take you nowhere.
There is a buzz that Negar will be back in India in few months, but Sahil has no intentions to get back with her. He says that his culture is completely different from hers and they would be better of as just friends.

Hollywood to remake Munnabhai MBBS

Bollywood has a fine tradition of remaking Hollywood hits, but the tables are being turned now and an Indian comedy, Munnabhai MBBS , is set to be remade in the United States. Munnabhai, MBBS , starring Sanjay Dutt, a flick about a gangster who pretends to be a doctor whenever his parents turn up, will be shot as Gangster MD . It will be directed by Mira Nair, best known for Monsoon Wedding in 2001. Nair said Chris Tucker, the Hollywood action star who came to focus as the wise-cracking cop in Rush Hour movie, would play the lead in Gangster MD . Filming is expected to begin after Tucker finishes shooting Rush Hour 3 with Jackie Chan in Paris this summer. Munnabhai MBBS is one of Bollywood's success stories. It tells of a gangster's decision to redeem himself by trying to become a doctor - which he hopes will also prove himself to the woman he loves and her father, superintendent and principal of a medical college and hospital. Nair said she might cast some actors from the Bollywood original and is on the lookout for Indian stars.

Preity: “I am a cold woman…”

The effervescent Preity Zinta is set to surprise fans with her cold woman act in Karan Johar's "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (KANK). "I never like myself on screen. But I must say KANK has changed my look and my personality completely. I play this cold woman, which wasn't easy for a warm person like me to do. I have just a few expressions to give away.

Fanaa makes Rs 3.9 crores in US

The chemistry between Aamir Khan and Kajol proved rather potent at the box office abroad with Fanaa opening to a strong $880,000 (about Rs 3.9 crores) in North America at the 13th position on the box office chart, over the four-day holiday weekend on 72 screens.
But convert that gross for a three-day period and it falls a bit short of the $700,000 (about Rs 3.15 crores) Aamir Khan's previous hit Rang De Basanti took on 61 screens a few months ago.

Though the figures for Fanaa from the United Kingdom were not immediately available, the buzz has it that it is emerging there among the top 10 hits. Conservative estimates expect the film to gross about $1.6 million (about Rs 7.2 crores) on both sides of the Atlantic, with the take for the full week exceeding $2 million (about Rs 9 crores).
Many of the 72 screens in North America, especially in New York, Vancouver, San Francisco and Toronto reported several house-full shows on Saturday and Sunday for Fanaa.
The call for the boycott of the film in Gujarat, because of Aamir Khan's stance on the Narmada dam rehabilitation, apparently did not resonate with audiences here, especially with younger viewers. Many younger Gujaratis told reporters what mattered to them most was if the film had turned out to be gripping and entertaining.

he solid opening for Fanaa is also significant since Pakistani and Bangladeshi audiences did not want to see the film, with some saying it would give a distorted view of what is happening in Kashmir.
But Fanaa's performance so far could not beat that of the Shah Rukh Khan-Preity Zinta-Rani Mukerji starrer Veer-Zaara, which grossed $840,000 (about Rs 3.78 crores) in a three-day weekend two years ago or the $1 million (about Rs 4.5 crores) taken by Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (this casting coup multi-starrer also had Kajol in a pivotal role) five years ago.
All three films were released by Yashraj Films and Veer-Zaara and K3G each grossed about $3 million (about Rs 13.5 crores) in North America. It looks like Fanaa should have no trouble reaching the $2 million (about Rs 9 crore) benchmark in North America. Many viewers in New York and New Jersey theatres said they were moved by the film and would recommend to their friends that it be seen on the big screen.

The opening for Fanaa is stronger than what I expected," said BoxOfficeGuru.com's Gitesh Pandya, who is the publicist for the film as well as the arthouse hit Water, which emerged last week as the highest grossing (about $3 million or about Rs 13.5 crores) Hindi film in North America.
Aamir Khan is up there with Shah Rukh Khan as a huge box office draw. Even Aamir's box office disappointment Mangal Pandey opened with $500,000 (about Rs 2.25 crores) in North America this year but it had no staying power, plummeting by about 65 per cent in its second week.
The four-day Memorial Day weekend also marked a solid engagement for Water, which unlike Fanaa is playing mainly to mainstream audiences. Many Indians have seen the film on video, and the movie is not playing in theatres meant for the usual Bollywood films.
It is not often one finds two hit Hindi films among the top 25 movies on the box office chart. Incidentally this week, the chart was led by the comic book movie X-Men: The Last Stand that grossed an astounding $122 million (about Rs 540 crores) in four days.
In its fifth weekend, the Deepa Mehta-directed Water grossed nearly $400,000, (about Rs 1.8 crores) taking its total to $1.4 million (about Rs 6.3 crores).
Combine that figure with its $1.7 million (about Rs 7.65 crores) Canadian gross -- the film opened in Canada soon after its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival last September -- Water, which is released by Fox Searchlight, has emerged as the most successful Hindi film in North America in about a year.
It has good chances of flowing beyond the $2 million (about Rs 9 crores) mark in the US, taking its North American gross to $4 million (about Rs 18 crores). Mehta's film was number 21 on the box office list.
"Water is slowly opening in smaller cities week after week," says Pandya. "This weekend it opened in cities such as Ann Arbor and Cleveland. The word of mouth has been very good for the film. Though many Indians have seen the film on video, they are recommending it to their American friends, he adds.
"And then there is a second generation of Indian Americans who are not into buying the video before they see the film," he continues. "For them seeing a film like Water is something of an event and they have to see it on the big screen first.
